QUALIFICATIONS FOR LICENSURE

A passing score on the Florida CILB Examination is require of all those applying for certification. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, meet the educational/experience requirements, be of good moral character, and pay all applicable fees. In order to become a licensed certified contractor in the State of Florida, an applicant must first pass all parts of the qualifying EXAMINATION. Additionally, the applicant must meet educational and/or experience requirements, obtain worker’s compensation coverage, and demonstrate financial responsibility. A “ licensed certified contractor” means any contractor who possesses a certificate issued by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) and who shall be allowed to contact in any jurisdiction in the State without being required to fulfill the competency requirements of that jurisdiction.

BE SURE YOU WILL MEET ALL OTHER REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENSURE. YOU WILL NOT BE GRANTED A LICENSE IF YOU DO NOT MEET ALL QUALIFICATIONS FOR LICENSURE EVEN IF YOU PASS THE EXAMINATION.

The fee for the examination is $135.00 payable by check, money order, or cashier’s check.

EXAMINATION FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. If you are scheduled for an examination and you do not show up, you will receive a failing score for that examination and you will forfeit the fees.

LENGTH AND FORMAT 

The examination is a two- (2) day, open book, multiple-choice exam. One part of the examination will test business and finance skills and one part of the examination will test trade knowledge. An applicant is required to retake only the failed portions of the examination.

If you are retaking one part of the examination because you passed one part and failed another part, you should know that you must pass all parts within one year (12months) of your first attempt. In other words, you have one year from the date of your first attempt to pass all parts. After that time, you must retake all parts again. It is the candidate’s responsibility to keep track of his or her exam history. 

DEADLINES

Completed applications and appropriate fees must be received by PTI no later 30 days prior to the examination date. Since examination sites may fill up before the deadline, it is recommended that candidates send in applications immediately.

Once PTI has received a completed application and appropriate fee by the deadline date, PTI will forward to the candidate an admission slip for the examination. PTI must receive an original application with payment. Faxed copies are not accepted.

CANCELLATIONS AND RESCHEDULING POLICY

Any change to your examination category or date must be submitted to PTI at least 30 days Before your scheduled test date. All changes in candidate information and date change requests must be submitted in the form of a “Change of Application Information Form” (found at http://proftesting.com/pdfs/state/ChangeOfApplication.pdf 

Emergency deferment requests submitted after the 30-day deadline will only be considered in the event of a serious illness for the candidate or a death in the candidate’s immediate family. All emergency requests must take the form of a completed Change of Application Information Form and typed letter on letterhead from a participating official (e.g. a physician, funeral director etc.). These materials must be faxed to the PTI office within 24 hours of the scheduled examination. PTI’s fax number is (407) 894-8164.
